Learning To Find My Way

If you know me from my pre-baby life you know I was a work-a-holic (honestly who am I kidding, this hasn’t changed). It’s something I seriously struggle with now that I’m a stay at home momma. And as R gets older I find it even more of a struggle.

When R was young….well, she didn’t really do anything. Babies are blobs and to keep my own sanity I volunteered for everything and added even more to my plate. I currently volunteer with five different organizations and put in countless hours. But as R’s getting older she actually needs me more so than as a baby. She wants me involved with her activities, teaching her, playing with her and being present. I can’t sit and respond to emails while I’m breastfeeding anymore and she even actively asks me to put my phone down these days. It breaks my heart that a statement like that has to come out my 2 year olds mouth 🙁

A couple months ago I joined an online mom/wife group and began something called Project Reset (check out The Home Loving Wife for more info). Essentially the goal is to figure out your values and prioritize your life based on those values. It took me some serious time to think about my values and how I was prioritizing my life around those values. I realized that I was not prioritizing my life based on how I wanted to live my values.

After some serious soul searching I realized it was time for changes in my life. I needed to cut back on my volunteer work, I needed to spend more time with my family, I needed to spend my time with the people I love not spend my time constantly responding to emails and managing people.

So this year has been huge for me as I’m discovering the things that really matter to me. R is becoming more interactive, more fun but also more demanding and it’s harder to find time with my hubby. I’m STILL trying to figure it all out, I don’t have all the answers. But I do know that I’m taking steps to understand myself better, to create a positive family environment and to lead by example for my daughter.

I spent the morning with a couple fabulous mommas at the beach. The overcast sky and mild temperature was actually amazing. I’m a jeans and t-shirt kinda lady and it’s been crazy hot here so I was excited to enjoy a “comfy” day. Digging my toes in the sand, watching R play with her friends, shrieking about the coldness of the water. It truly was perfect and  it was exactly what I needed to start off a weekend of focusing on my family.

This weekend I promise to keep my phone away more, to be present and excited with my daughter and to take some time to cuddle with my amazing hubby. Every step I take gets me closer to living out my life with purpose and happiness. I’m excited for this new journey I’m on!

Weekly Menu Planning

Back in 2012, when I was trying to loose weight for my wedding, I tracked EVREY single thing that I ate, planned my meals out every Saturday and spent Sunday prepping and making meals. It worked wonders and I lost 20 lbs in 5 months.

Nowadays tracking, planning, prep, etc. is much more difficult. Having a toddler running around makes it difficult to make the plans and stick with them. I’ve been back on the band wagon many times and a few weeks in something comes up and I forget to plan a week, forget to enter in my food, and I fall off.

So here I go trying again….I’m hoping that by doing a weekly blog post I’ll keep up more with the planning. I’m not going to enter food into any app or anything like that, I’m just going to plan the week and really push myself to stick to the plan.

So here goes……

All of the above gives myself and R breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the week. I’m loving doing all of my grocery shopping at New Seasons Market. And the best part? I only spent $57.77 at the grocery store! When purchasing all organic, free range, hormone free food the prices can get a bit spency but so far New Seasons hasn’t been too bad!

First up on the menu? Green Pepper “Not”-chos

OMG were these delicious! Large sliced green peppers, a few purple corn chips and lots of delicious toppings (we did tomatoes, black olives, beef, and cheese). Bake at 325 for 20 minutes and enjoy! In our house we LOVE nachos so this was a great way to make them lighter. Give it a try.

Fit Life – Weigh in Wednesday

So…let’s start with me. I really still haven’t lost any weight but I haven’t been very strict on everything. I definitely haven’t been watching closely what I eat, opps. I had a friend visit this past week so we went out a lot and drank a bit as well. It’s hard finding the balance and remembering to always put in my food to my food diary thing. That is my goal for next week.

My goal for this week is to get to Barre class twice! I’ve already registered, Wednesday and Friday, so that definitely encourages me to go since I’ve already paid. Thank goodness for Sally and getting me to go to the first class. I’m always nervous going to the first class but once I do that, and enjoy it, then I’m ok going on my own.

With my moms group I’m trying to find someone to go to a stroller fitness class with me too. Again I just need a friend to start with me and then I’ll feel more confident.

Now the fun part, RYLEY! She’s doing great. She’s been gaining more than well. She’s up to about 11.5lbs now and over 23 inches long. I love seeing her grow! I was looking at past pictures and it is seriously just so crazy how much she’s grown. Check it out:

Fit Life – Weigh in Thursday

Today was a great day; it’s my daughters 2 month birthday!
We had her 2 month check up, and for any of you with babies you know what that means – SHOTS! Poor little lady got 3 shots today. She was such a trooper! She cried of course, and Matt almost did too, but once we were home she was great. She slept much of the day and was fussy early on but got better as the day went on. Taking off the bandaids was the hard part for me, making her cry hurt 🙁
But the great news was that she weighed in at 10.5lbs! She was born 6.5lbs so she is doing great in the weight department. It feels good to know that I’m helping her grow. It’s a proud momma moment today!
Now for my weigh in….drum roll….I’m down 2 lbs, yeah. Better than nothing lol. I did start exercising with my first Barre class. It was hard work, but it was great. I’m going to start going every Wednesday. I haven’t gone to the baby boot camp yet but I’m hoping next week. It’s hard to find the time to fit in the exercise, but I know I need to, just so busy.
Life is good!

Fit Life – Weigh In Wednesday…err Friday

Well all I can say is it’s been a long week…I haven’t lost any weight nor started my exercise. I know I know I need to get it started and I am going to. I actually signed up for Baby Boot Camp starting next Tuesday. It’s a bit spency so we will see how it goes. I get the first class free 🙂

My friend also asked me if I wanted to start taking Barre classes so I’m going to be doing that on Wednesday. I’m a bit nervous because I’m really out of shape but can’t get into shape without working out 🙂 Having a friend to keep you on track is always super helpful too. We are going to start next week as well.

Food has been so so – I need really quick and easy snacks/meals that are healthy and I struggle a bit with that. Things that can be eaten with my hands over a fork are great as well. Salads are a bit hard because I often eat with just one hand while I’m feeding Ryley so I need something I can easily put into my hand with no table to set it on. I need to do some Pinterest searching to figure out my options here.

On to more exciting news – Miss Ryley is up to 10.2lbs! She’s finally fit 10lbs, so crazy! Looking at her growth chart she is exactly where she should be so that’s great. I can tell she is getting heavier; my back hurts more haha

She’s in a weird in between size unfortunately – her newborn clothes are almost all too small, except a few plain onsies, and then her 0-3 months close are mostly too big for her. Baby Gap seems to be the best fit so far in the 0-3 month range but even those are a bit big. She’ll get there! It’s hard to buy baby clothes – I want to buy her some winter clothes for when we go to Ohio but I don’t know size wise where she will be. She’ll be 5 months old so I’m thinking she’ll still be in her 3 month old clothes since she’s on the smaller side. I just bought a few things from Carter’s that are 6 month and they look like they are going to be too big. And when you have to buy for the season you are in it’s harder to buy things on sale – it’s how they get you!

Anyways – not so good week for me but exciting week for Ryley 🙂


Fit Life – Weigh in Wednesday

First for a Wednesday – YAY!

This week will feature TWO weigh-ins, exciting 🙂 I had my six week postpartum appointment last Friday and was given the all clear for exercise. I’m not sure if I’m excited or not hehe. Well I’m excited but also having an excuse to be lazy was kind of fun, now I need to get my ass in gear!

Goal 1: Lose 25 lbs by birthday (April 24th)
Goal 2: Work out at least twice per week
Goal 3: Go on a minimum of 2 walks per week
Goal 4: Do yoga twice a week

I’m going to accomplish goal 2 in a few ways. I’m joining babybootcamp and going to do that once per week and then work out at home on my elliptical the other day per week. I’d like to say I’m going to work out three times per week but I’m trying to make realistic goals here.

For goal 3 I know Matt and Zoey will appreciate it. During the last couple months of my pregnancy we were going on a walk almost every night. Zoey LOVES walks and she was getting so used to it that if by the time the sun went down we weren’t up and walking she would be jumping all over us to get us going. It was actually kind of nice because if I wasn’t feeling it she made us do it.

For goal 4 I’m going to do yoga at home as well. My dad’s fiancé, Shawn, recommend yogaglo so I’m going to check it out. It’s $18 per month and you can target specific areas of your body and pick your timing too. I’ll check it out. Matt and I really enjoyed going to yoga before I got pregnant but doing it together with a baby is going to be a bit difficult.

So my starting weight as of August 15th is 152 lbs. My pre-pregnancy was 132 and I got up to 170. I gained too much weight but all for a good cause 😉 So yeah, that’s my goal. I’ll post each week where we are at.

Now for Ryley’s weigh in! This little lady is getting bigger by the day! It’s just crazy and amazing all at the same time. We weighed her yesterday and she was 9.5 lbs! Can’t believe it! I also can’t believe that some people give birth to kids that size. Our little girl was a small one but I’m thankful for that. She already looks so different; it’s very fun to see her growing. I can’t wait to see her grow year over year, as she gets older and see what sort of woman she grows into

Fit Life – Weigh in Thursday

That totally doesn’t have the same ring to as “Weigh in Wednesday” it but I keep missing Wednesday for this post. The joys of a newborn 🙂 And as I’m typing this she’s beginning to cry so I figure it will take me a few hours, maybe even another day, to get through this post…and I’m back an hour later.

Anyways – back to Ryley’s weigh in….drumroll please….she is 8 pounds 1 ounce as of Monday 8/4 at exactly one month of age. It’s crazy that our one month old is the size of many people’s just born child. I’m so glad she was a small baby! I also can’t believe she’s already a month old! Here are some pictures:

With the struggles we had in the beginning with breastfeeding its beyond relieving to know that she is gaining weight well, that’s all I want for my little one. I love that little girl and making sure she is growing is all I care about, especially since I’m the one providing her food to her. There was a day I broke down because I was just so scared I wasn’t providing enough for her, that’s why her weigh in’s are so important to me. It means that I’m providing for her and right now at this age that’s all I really can do for her. 
She is truly an amazing little girl. She’s smiling while she’s sleeping and we had her first laugh today! OMG it was so dang cute!
Starting in two weeks I’ll be adding myself to the weekly weigh-ins, once I get the approval from the dr to start working out again I’m going to get back into doing 30 minutes on the elliptical. It isn’t much but that’s where I’m going to start. It’s going to be hard but I NEED to find the time to fit this in…so be on the lookout 🙂

Fit Life – Weigh in Wednesday….well Thursday

I’d like to do a post each Wednesday with a weigh in on Ryley and myself (once I get the ok from the doctor to sort working out, etc.) So I’m a day late on this one, life with a newborn is a bit hard to schedule, but here it is…..drum roll please…..she weighs in at 7 pounds 7 ounces! She’s gained almost a full pound since birth and a pound and a half since her lowest weight. She’s right on track!

In the beginning breastfeeding wasn’t easy, although it still isn’t, so I had to pump to make sure my milk came in. I was constantly worried that I wasn’t producing enough milk for her. A feeling of inadequacy was hard to deal with. I was the life support of my child and I felt horrible that I was struggling to provide for her. But thankfully things are working out and she’s gaining weight great. I still stress about it but it’s getting easier.

This is us out for a walk after our weigh in. It was our first solo adventure 🙂

I wanted to do newborn pics but they are SO spency so I figured I could do some of my own. Isn’t she the cutest little thing!

This is her just about a week old. You can tell she’s grown already 🙂

 I can’t wait to see her continue to grow. She gets stronger every day. It’s the coolest thing. She’s started hugging my arm while I give her the pacifier. It’s pretty adorable 🙂
